The thing about taste is that around 80%* of what we perceive as flavour is actually derived from what we’re smelling.
Many people assume that taste is entirely achieved through our tongues and taste buds. But, in reality, the tongue is only partially responsible for a portion of the flavour experience.
So, with air up®️ you're drinking just water and experiencing flavour through scent.

The majority of what we taste comes from our olfactory receptors (part of our anatomy that plays a central role in our sense of smell).
Retronasal smelling is what makes everything we do possible, as it’s how we ‘bring flavour’ to plain water. Our bottles allow the 'flavoured’ air contained within our pods to be consumed with every sip.
Your nasal receptors interpret this ‘flavoured’ air as the taste of water, even though the water itself isn’t flavoured.
The scents inside our pods come exclusively from natural ingredients. Fruits, spices, herbs, that kind of thing. These scents are applied to an air-permeable carrier material, or what we like to call ‘the fleece’.
Whilst we can’t give away all our secrets, we can say that all our scents come from a high-quality scent manufacturer, who extracts them from natural sources. Our scent creation team then produces the most diverse and creative flavours imaginable from these ingredients, and voila – a flavour pod is created!
Also, we’re very proud to confirm that our pods are suitable for our vegan and vegetarian friends, too.
Our bottle has a pressure valve at the upper end of the mouthpiece, which allows you to drink without stopping. To avoid leaking sip, don't tip! Just keep the bottle upright as if you were drinking out of a glass with a straw. Water could also leak out if the pod is not attached to the mouthpiece, or if the cap is not tightly closed.
You should hear air bubbles whirring away when drinking with the pod activated. This is a sign that the pod is working!
1. Check that you have assembled your bottle as shown in this video.
2. Ensure your pod is activated (pulled up to the lip).
3. Make sure the straw is inserted all the way into the mouthpiece.
If, after checking the above three points, the pod is still not working, follow the next two steps:
4. Try another pod to check if it’s a defective pod or something in your bottle.
5. Completely disassemble and reassemble the bottle again.
With our bottle, it’s totally normal for small air bubbles to be included with each sip. These air bubbles carry the flavour from your pod and enable yourbrain to experience the scent as taste, all without anything being physically added to your water!

How Does it Work?
How to Use the air up® Bottle.
With air up®, you can easily drink healthy and tasty. To get you started, we’ve prepared a short video explaining how the air up® bottle works.
Retronasal - The Science behind the Scent.
What makes air up® possible? The concept of retronasal smell. This is the technical term for a simple process – tasting with your nose. When you smell something, it passes through the throat to the olfactory centre in the nose and manifests in the brain as taste. Simple. Genius. Mind-blowing. 80% of the tastes you experience are actually things you are smelling. The tongue may talk the talk, but it’s the nose that walks the walk when it comes to taste.
1. Fill up.
Fill up your air up® bottle with fresh drinking water. Fizzy or flat, it doesn’t matter; make it your own.
2. Straw In.
Attach the straw to the mouthpiece, and slide the straw into the bottle.
3. Mouthpiece On.
Fit the mouthpiece tightly into place, lining the teardrop shape with the 650ml marking.
4. Pop on the Aroma Pod.
Remove the aroma Pod from the packaging and press it onto the mouthpiece.
5. Activate Aroma Pod.
Activate the aroma Pod by pulling it gently up until it naturally stops. The scent is now active.*
6. Drink. Don't Tilt.
Drink by sucking the water up through the straw. You do not need to tilt the bottle.
7. Fall in Love.
Experience scent-based taste, whilst drinking only water.
8. Close the Bottle.
Attach the bottle cap, covering the mouthpiece and Pod. The Pod is now de-activated. Remember to keep the aroma Pod on the bottle when adding the lid to ensure there are no leaks.
